As our 8th grade students wrap up their last month in Mokena SD 159, we asked them to submit a shoutout to a staff member who has had an impact on them during their time in the district. In honor of Staff Appreciation Week, we will be sharing some of these shoutouts throughout the week to celebrate the influence our staff members have had on our students over the last nine years!

The Illinois Principals Association (IPA) anually recognizes outstanding student leaders across Illinois. Today, six of our district students were celebrated! MES students Knox M. and Delilah G, MIS students Finley D. and Sean M. , and MJHS students Jacob L. and Morgan M. joined our schools' principals and their families for an awards breakfast at the Renaissance Center in Joliet. Congratulations to these remarkable students!

Join us on Thursday for the MIS Masterpieces and Melodies event! You are invited to spend the evening listening to student musical groups, looking at art exhibits and participating in hands-on art activities for all ages!
The Hoopin for Inclusion Fundraiser is quickly approaching! There has been a slight change in the start time on April 29th. The doors will open at 6:00 pm and the wheelchair basketball game will start at 6:30 pm. In addition to the game, there will be concessions, Aurelio's Pizza of Frankfort, Crumbl Cookie, a variety of activities for the kids, and an incredible amount of raffle prizes. 5th graders learned about tornadoes, hail, and thunderstorms today from Storm Chaser Nick with Illinois Storm Chasers and Storm Science. They even experienced a storm cloud in the gym and got to take a look at a storm chasing vehicle with hail damage from last month's local storms! Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring this event that extended learning from the students' ELA module all about natural disasters!
This week our 4th graders had the amazing learning experience of squid dissection as part of our science standards about how animals have both internal and external structures that serve various functions in growth, survival, and behavior and as a connection to our ELA curriculum module on animal defense mechanisms. Thank you to Ms. Amy, the "squid-pert", for leading this engaging activity and helping us learn!
MIS student Sadie R. arrived in style today to school! She won the Mokena Fire Protection District's Fire Safety Essay Contest and was brought to school by a firetruck ! Congratulations to Sadie on a job well done!
Last night’s Touch-a-Truck event was a huge hit! A big thank you to everyone who joined us and to all the local community organizations who brought their vehicles and shared what they do with our students. We loved seeing so many happy faces!
Tomorrow is the day! Mokena School District is hosting a Special Education Family Night on Thursday, April 23 at MES! There will be a variety of trucks to experience, as well as food trucks with food for purchase.
